Absolutely. It makes a fair bit of fun of the original, but doesn't require that you've read it.

I do think it kinda helps to have read at least the first book or watched the first movie.

You would get more out of it having had the back story of at least watching the first movie (it's only 3rs). But the Yudkowsky version of it stands on its own.
