Disk and RAM prices have had recent anomalous prices in the last few years due to external circumstances. There were serious floods in Thailand, a major hard drive manufacturer, in 2011 which caused persistent drive shortages up until fairly recently. There was also a large fire at a Hynix Fab plant that produced RAM which caused memory prices to spike for a while.
