Star trek generally doesn't really take the effort to actually explain how things work. They'll just invent a word and pretend that's an explanation. E.g. how do the teleporters deal with the Heisenberg principle? Why by using Heizenberg compensators of course! It's a pretty efficient storytelling device to avoid the audience looking at details that are irrelevant to the story too hard.

Similarly, how is the gravity generated? By grav-plating of course![0]
