Reddit to "warn" users that upvote "violent" content (reddit.com)

I think this is silly and misunderstands why / how Reddit users vote.

Users on reddit vote on instinct almost. They don't know the subs rules, they don't even know the sites rules. You could have a "cats only" sub and if a cute puppy shows up on someone's feed, they'll upvote it. Reddit voters don't care about the context or rules, and no amount of reminders will make them care, and on highly visible posts they always outnumber the amount of thoughtful voters, always.

The answer here is to give the hall monitors a bigger stick and poke voters who vote wrong, who don't know / care that they're voting wrong.

Sorry Reddit, your system just doesn't have voters who care / you've got a system that has never given them a reason to care and wagging a finger with warnings is not enough to change that.

This isn't new.

Funny how these same mods loved it when it was applied against r/The_Donald, but oh - NOW this is "a slippery slope".

Well, yeah, because it is now. It wasn't when people were manipulating a broken system to push bigotry and misinformation to the front page.
