I wish deep desks were more common! Modern ultrawide curved monitors sit way too close for comfort for me due to the way their legs have to be angled further back for center of gravity. custom desks end up being so expensive.

That's where a desk mount monitor arm comes in. Even a high-end model capable to hold those 49" 32:9 monsters will likely be significantly cheaper than a custom desk.

A small desk works best imho. Have the bottom of the screen well below desk height.

Any good deep desks that you've found so far?

i'm using a nice sheet of 4x8 finished plywood from the hardware store. i trimmed the depth down a bit, but not much. put some edge banding on it, and stick it on top of a flexispot or whatever other 4-legged desk frame you want to use.

This is a cheap large desk I like.

How about the (in)famous Amazon Door Desk? They used to build desks for their offices from a door.

Just don't let Bezos attach the legs .. by all accounts he was a shitty carpenter at best and the wobble factor was high.

Nothing wrong with doors as desk, just get the framing solid.

Half inch thick solid kiln dried door sized jarrah hardwood is even better .. but that's likely not to hand for most and expensive to order if not.

I had to lookup "jarrah". Ref: https://www.wood-database.com/jarrah/

Is this available outside of Australia? Your suggestion seems oddly specific.

It's a dense hardwood, near the top of those attributes on wood scales.

Hardwoods make great table tops, I've always had jarrah workbenches and general desktops and used other woods for 'fancy' tables .. but then I'm in W.Australia and used to recover treefall for slabbing in sheds and using in Brady Drums etc. (I knew Chris Brady back in the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55SXxWz0Vpg)

Significant tonnages of it were blocked, shipped to England as ballast and used to pave the streets - as a consequence quantities are still kicking about the UK after being recovered and repurposed.

Go to a used furniture store and pick up an old school executive desk. Those are huge.

But very, very heavy. I have a huge desk upstairs that came with the house and will be staying with the house when we sell it...

Meanwhile, my 60"x30" motorized sit/stand desk is on wheels.

easiest is buying a table top in a DIY store and get it cut to the size you want. my local DIY store has sizes up to 100 cm x severalMeters.

most desks are only 60 or 80 cm
