In my experience, filmmaker mode often makes the picture too dark. Maybe that's ok if your room is dark like a theater, but that's not how people often live in their homes.

Motion smoothing is awful, though -- definitely keep that off.


It was mentioned in the article, i.e. to turn up the brightness when watching in a bright room. It’s a customisable preset anyways.


Part of that problem these days is streaming compression, even "4K"/"8K", doing awful things to black levels.

(The other part, of course, is bizarre directorial nonsense like the last season of GoT.)

same, only option is turn down the lights but then people fall asleep
