Show HN: Webhooks for Any Event (markets.sh)

Hi, co-founder of markets.sh here. We are doing a lot of news processing and analysis around stocks and companies. One feature people like to use is “alerts” at certain price points. We have now extended this with LLM filters on the whole news feed so that you can create (near) real-time webhooks on arbitrary events like:

- Notify me when Nvidia is worth 10 trillion - Notify me about AI breakthroughs - Notify me when Intel is the market leader again - Notify me about successful Starship launches - Notify me when a war breaks out - Notify me about bankrupt unicorn startups - Notify me about significant economic events

The feature is still very early. If you write that you’re from Hacker News in the support chat, I’ll give personal support. Would greatly appreciate all feedback

Cool feature! Any plans to offer limited API credits in order to trial things? I just created an account but I'm unable to test (settings shows 0/300 credits).

oh snap you should definately have credits, one moment.

ok solved, this is actually the usage so you have used 0 of 300 points. i will fix the ui to make this easier to understand

thanks, just confirmed can create Signals via the API now :) Look forward to trying this out

great! it's a pretty early version so please get in touch through the various channels (website chat, contact form or on twitter) if you have any questions or something does not work

ok i didn't expect this to be natural language. how does that work? do you run everyone's natural language queries every hour on all of your data received in that hour? (as an example time unit)

we have a permanent stream of news running through the system, we are comparing this with the queries, determining if there are special extra sources needed and then check it as new i formation comes in. for things like stock price alerts we store those as sql with a different engine. it’s definitely work in progress but very useful fir us internally already. will be integrated in our chat system next week

Sorry, we have a bug with the credits right now. of course there are free monthly credits. if you have any issue, please use the chat (it's in the menu) or drop us a mail at hello @ markets.sh

you can still create signals via the ui here, the notifications are then sent via email https://markets.sh/notifications

I’d recommend talking to the Svix folks, might be a partnership opportunity wrt pushing webhooks around.

Thanks for the shout-out!

@halotrope, would be happy to chat, you can find my email in my profile.

P.S, congrats on the launch!

Make OIDC (e.g. Continue with Microsoft) available at all levels so you're not storing user creds, cheaper and less liability for you, better for SaaS subscriber security posture as well. (And SAML should be available too, but perhaps at Pro and up as you do have to build out or SaaS-lease an admin flow.)

Sign in looks like: https://id.atlassian.com/login

In US market, Microsoft (85%!) and Google "Continue with" pick up most SMB IdP-using companies, and Apple and Google most indie devs.

There's no reason to start firms out with a credential flow when neither side wants that. Forcing "call us" to get table stakes security practice wastes everyone's time as well.

ty! i'll be in touch once we need to scale it a bit more. right now we're still focussing on latency and reliability of the underlying signals

Almost certainly, tab click with language names should change code snippet value in text area. Not trigger different highlighting.

Yeah totally! this was a bug as that i introduced when persisting langauges so that you don't have to always click. it's now fixed. thank you for reporting!

On landing page - sample webhook responses would help.

ty for the feedback! yeah, it’s more of a quick api doc right now. i’ll make a better version asap

Brilliant.

thank you!
