You could argue cynically that all relationships are to some extent transactional. People “invest” in friendships after all. It’s just a bit more abstract.
Maybe the flaw in the logic is the existence of some sort of “genuine” binary: things are either genuine or they aren't. When we accept such a binary lots of things can be labeled predatory.
