I've switched over to the Ansel fork which addresses the uncontrolled feature creep in Darktable. Mostly happy with the opinionated removal of cruft. Had to learn some new tricks, but overall my editing process is now more streamlined and pleasurable.

This is a obvious question, but what is a dark table ?

There is no such thing as a dark table, this is a pun ;)

There is the light table (to see frames on films) and the dark room (to develop films). Adobe made a pun by mixing the words: Lightroom. And then they made another pun by taking the opposite: darktable.
