Such a huge claim and yet seemingly hinges on the claims of one scientist? Why is this the first time we're hearing about this? No one had thought to use carbon dating on this site before?

Because carbon dating requires hands-on access. You can't use it on a buried object, even if you can see the object clearly on pictures from gadgets like a ground radar.
