The Little Schemer is best read with a Lisp-virgin mind. If you intend to read it at all, do it before SICP. Then again, if you don't want to wait for SICP I fully understand you too.

I forgot to say above that the sequel, The Seasoned Schemer, is really great, too. It's got some challenging parts though.
