People who forget history allow it to repeat. The freedom of business owners to choose who they do business with is entrenched in the idea of capitalism and it's usually balanced by capitalist greed. If you don't want to do business with someone for "reason" then someone else will be ready to take their money.
We have enshrined protected classes and forgotten why they are called out as protected classes. Choosing who you do business with is a something that was never questioned. Yes even asshole bigots used to have that choice and almost no one thought it was wrong. The reason the government stepped in to make it wrong was not because one individual business was doing it, it's because they all were doing it. This has the effect of excluding certain people from participating in society. That's why they became a protected classes.
Banking is a requirement to participate in modern society both as an individual and a business. More and more often we see banks excluding individuals and business for no specific reason, or they put onerous requirements in them with no justification. Banks, especially banks, while private are heavily regulated by the government. I can't just start a bank like I could shoe shine stand. Because the banks, while private are effectively extensions of government monetary policy they should not be allowed to refuse any business. They should publicly documented policies on how they evaluate risk, and risk should be individualized.
Excluding those you disagree with morally or politically from society is as wrong as excluding based on any of the enumerated classes. Religion is a choice as much as morals and politics as practiced within the law.
Yes I know it's Canada but it's not too dissimilar.
