Same thing happened all around the Middle East in 2007, seems like a pretty common tactic in war.


A bit of payback for the destruction of the gas pipeline?

More likely disabling them to prevent them from monitoring (naval) vessel traffic:

"They could also be used as drifting hydrophones to listen for passing vessels for security purposes."
