One of the absolute easiest ways to add structure when unemployed is to pick a substantial exercise goal and work towards it. Endurance events are ideal but could also be something like a new Deadlift PR. For the former, if you pick a long enough distance such as Ironman or Half Ironman you’ll be training in the region of between 10 and 20 hours a week which is a part time job in itself.
For the latter, you’ll be doing less but the time spent commuting to the gym, doing your workout and showering is probably still going to add up to somewhere in the 5 - 10 hour range if you’re doing it 5/6 days a week.
You can pretty much find an app for every mainstream sport imaginable where you can get a full year of personalised programming for under £200. If you then combine this with a training course of some kind to learn a new skill and a creative project/side hustle, you end up with a self-structured life by default that is pretty satisfying.
If anyone wants app recommendations for specific sports leave a comment and I’ll write a list of the best ones I’ve found.
