Tell HN: Amazon Forcing Use of “Currency Converter”

I'm buying a Chemex on Amazon.co.uk with a US credit card. Previously, I'd have the option to pay in GBP or pay in USD. Now, that is no longer there. I have to pay my card's currency and Amazon translates the exchange rate. This means if you pay via a card in a different currency, Amazon is guaranteeing they get the markup. They converted a £44.95 8-cup Chemex to $53.25, good for an exchange rate of USD/GBP of 1.18465 vs. the spot market USD rate of 1.15069. These are airport-price level exchange rates, and now there seems to be no option to opt-out of Amazon taking the cut if I use a foreign card. Just flagging this up as a bummer for the customer.
