If it’s randomly crashing that could be a hardware issue. I’ve owned numerous MacBooks and Mac minis over the years, nothing should ever be crashing randomly, especially not macOS.

It does it even when nothing else is plugged in, and I've had occasional crashes since I got it 5+ years ago (so, across multiple MacOS versions).

TBH, the crashing when plugging/unplugging, HiDPI issues and general ugliness and clunkyness are far more annoying tho!

I’ve got an LG28” 4K on a 2019 MBP. I’ve never experienced a crash but the monitor will sometimes flick (lose video for a second, sometimes it will also auto lock). Just once or twice a day, so no biggie.

It took me awhile to configure my monitor correctly, and the color is still off. I got my wife the 24” 4K that Apple recommends and it has been much better for her (as a designer, she wouldn’t have put up with wrong colors).
