Almost exactly a year ago there was a bunch of HN discussion [0] around a community thing that 1P was considering backtracking on their sub-only stance for 1P8+. I sort of assumed nothing would come of it (and indeed it doesn't seem anything has?) but I never noticed up until now that they actually did launch an official survey. Going by Wayback Machine it was a few weeks after, but it didn't get any submission to HN at the time and I never heard of it anywhere else too. So this is old and maybe it was just intended to kind of torpedo the issue and let them claim that "almost nobody cares", but on the off chance anyone else like me cares enough to futily throw a few words into the aether one last time here it is. I'm still on 1P7 standalone which still works ok and when it's done I'll probably move to Vaultwarden (formerly Bitwarden_rs), but I've used 1P for a very long time and in principle I'd be happy if they continued to offer an option for those with on-premise data requirements or just plain subscription fatigue.
Though most of all I hope to see a more rapid acceleration of webauthn and hardware token support that eliminates the use of passwords entirely for 3rd party authentication as should have happened 15-20 years ago for anything modern.
