I live in California and I've never heard of this but I've only been here a couple years and don't own a truck so I'm still learning the laws.

Reading further, 14.56.080 defines 1 ton as 2000 lbs so 3 tons is 6000 lbs. The Rivian is 5800 lbs so it's legal. What am I missing?
