Didn't that just come out? Nope, 2013. I'm just old now.

System Shock (BioShock's predecessor) is currently getting a remake

My initial thought was 'Again?' But then I looked and realized that this is the same remake I was thinking of and has been listed on Steam since at least 2016.

Me too! Did it fall into development hell?

One of the best trilogies I’ve ever played, if you like the genre (immersive adventure survival fps (?)) atmospheric, super fun to play and well written, definitely worth a shot

It was great but I found the later plot parts of Bioshock 2 rather gruesome and that takes away the fun for me. The beginning was amazing and wonderuous.

But I just bought the whole series a couple months ago!

While the first one was fun and engaging, the second was just boring and repetitive. So, I still haven't gotten to Infinite yet.

Infinite leans away from the immersive sim feel that the first 2 games tried to capture, and styles itself in gameplay as more of a shooter. IMO that actually works out better for it, the first 2 games didn't go far enough into sim territory for my tastes, so the third game's focus on making the shooting element satisfying makes it feel less 'clunky'.

What do you think bioshock is a sim for exactly?

I honestly didn't find that there was much impact to the world based upon my actions.

Especially when the examples provided is Ultima.

That was my take but I think that’s not really what it’s about. It’s not decisions affecting the world. It’s having options on how to proceed past challenges. Shootout, stealth, or gimmicky ability in most cases.

I find this concept kind of lame though. Most of these design concepts tend to shoehorn you into a few repetitive approaches and gimmicky stuff is often so unrealistic to the point of anti immersion (“huh, must have been the wind” while partner bleeds out on the ground next to them).

That seems a little silly to me but sure I guess.

What's up with Epics recent give aways ?

They’ve been giving away games for a very long time. One every week. Usually just a niche indie title. But it’s a special sale week so the games are big. I’m 100% sold. Epic Games has bought my customer loyalty and I have no qualms about it.

Edit: it’s a mix between promoting newer titles and drawing users to their platform.

Dumping to try and get market share away from Steam

They once gave away GTA V for free if you set up MFA. They also did the new Tomb Raider Triology a while back.

A Chinese tech giant is burning money to gain a large customer base.
