It's not particularly "weird". Even today, black nationalists get along better with white supremacists than white progressives. It's all about perspectives. Ethno-nationalists share the same worldview, they can understand each other and agree on fundamentals. Ideologues can respect their enemies, but they'll never like people who they disagree with on fundamental ideological grounds.
