It is greivance for the sake of grievance. If there wasn’t something real to be upset about they would turn up the gain on the amplifier until they detected something. (That what amplifiers are for!)

Maybe 30,000 years from now most people will live in a small space megastructure (compared to Niven’s ringworld or Dyson’s sphere) and will take a somewhat different form than they do today… but there will be a small group of them that argue if Eliezer Yudokowsky or Scott Alexander or Aella was the greatest intellectual of the 21st century and they’re sure that ‘wokeness’ was a terrible problem back then even if they aren’t quite sure what it was.
