Interesting, I thought it is RISC. So my opinion, they failed because obviously first have to got everything from single chip, and only than should create network.

And MICRO-computers now conquered world, because they cheap. - It is just much cheaper to package most parts of system into one chip, so they win, even when system from many simple chips achieve faster clocks.
