Non industrial tech. These huge massive excesses of computation arent really relevant, compared to the frontiers of computing being a personally possible revolutionary potentiality. Progress is dispirate & not well proven. But big computing is both cutting edge but increasingly irrelevant & botique, not broadly impactful. We will leave our impactlessness shortly, start to explore & find edges that bring us somewhere good, expand our lands.
It’s funny to think that my pet, without having the ability to vocalize a human language or think abstractly, still manages to communicate more effectively than this pile of words arranged into a simulation of ‘deep thought.’
Ted Nelson's Computer Lib/Dream Machines is still on point. It's not much more specific than I am, still mostly vague. But I dont think we're at a stage where focusing on specifics would do anything but mislead, would winnow down an idea, would have us thinking about a tree when the plot is about the forrest.
