..I understand this desire to not have a boss, but I think running a business might not provide the "no boss!" situation that's desired.
I've heard it said that when you're employed by a company you have (usually) one boss, but when you have your own business, you have many bosses (demanding customers who threaten to leave and not pay if you don't do things the way/speed they want them... sounds similar to a boss).
Perhaps part of the solution is getting staff to be more confidently able to say "No", or at least have a conversation/disagreement around a given issue.
Not everyone wants to start a business or be a contractor.
I think it's the human condition that power will be misused.. We live in a broken world unfortunately.
