I think back to this essay every year and have done so for years. Worth re-reading. I learned the King James Ecclesiastes verse because of it.

"Time and chance happeneth to them all" is a phrase you read once and it is with you forever.

My apologies, I had no idea this essay was such an annual event. The essay entered my head today and I thought it would fulfil other curious minds. But as I see, it has already done that. I'll endeavour to find something more original the next time!

I don't think the [dupe] flag was justified. This is the first time I'm seeing it and there aren't a lot of comments on most of those.
