Australia has shown itself to be an icebreaker for 5 eyes countries. Expect similar legislation in Canada, USA, UK and New Zealand

Why don't NZ and Australia join into one state that could be called Oceania? At least it would provide a good start for the future Ingsoc party. Then there's also a whole empty continent nearby that can be used to deport wrong-thinkers. /s

New Zealand were actually asked to join Australia during federation, and there response was

"Nature has made 1200 impediments to the inclusion of New Zealand in any such Federation in the 1,200 miles of stormy ocean which lie between us and our brethren in Australia.T hat does not prevent the existence of a community of interests between us. There is a community of interest, and if circumstances allow us at a future date to join in the federation, we shall be only too glad to do so. But what is the meaning of having 1,200 miles of ocean between us?"

Australian law still allows New Zealand to join the federation, no questions asked, if they do decide to do so.

Got any examples? I haven't seen any other copies of Australias data encryption law, which is the only other one I'm familiar with

It's going to be very tough as a juror to disassociate a deepfake voice of the defendant admitting to crimes if it has to be included in the case for some reason.

The slanderous implications are just harrowing. I never thought I'd live to see Australia make a law that makes your lawyer obsolete. How can they advocate and advise you which actions to take if you are not in full control of what you can project, digitally or otherwise.
