Sigh.

You poor fools.

I guess us poor fools?

I haven't thought the day will come when Apple news brings up very strongly, as a knee jerk reaction, one short part of a one long sentence Hungarian poem indeed called One Sentence On Tyranny. It is a poem many of us know from heart, to remember what was even if many back in Hungary forgot. I fail to convey my emotions here in just a few words but I am incredibly saddened.

Anyways, I checked a few translations, they lose some of the power of the original but let me try, the first two lines only for context:

[...] you would like to look, but you can only see

what Tyranny conjured up for you

already forest fire surrounds you

fanned into flame from a matchstick

you threw down without stamping it out

Oh yes, nothing new under the Sun. And it might be too late now.

These things have been so much on my mind because I saw an anti masker protest in Vancouver peacefully escorted by police. My mind melted. I remember, remember all too well, it was only 35 years ago when Hungarian police have broken up a protests with batons -- it's called the Battle Of the Elizabeth Bridge to this day. It was a very one sided battle, mind you. And while I don't remember, my parents do when they broke it up with tanks....
