What would you have spent that energy on instead?



You could not produce this energy. It's better for the environment. If the energy is there anyway, maybe aluminium or equivalent. Not magic numbers.


Nothing is stopping you from setting up shop somewhere with the same wasted electrical surplus, finding the machinery needed, an adequate staff to run it, figuring out your international supply chain, and hoping you turn out profitable.


You are right, bruteforcing checksums is easier.


The market would agree.


Does magic numbers mean a decentralized network that is permissionless to participate in, is censorship resistant, virtually unstoppable, and global?


Not necessarily.
