If you go to the VesselFinder website, you can see them give credit to OSM in that map and the OpenLayers website mentions they use OSM. Guess I should have mentioned OpenLayers too since it actually implements the map UI so ty.

OSM is primarily just a datasource. Different consumers of the data will have different UIs and performance.
