Filesystem compression could help here. To my knowledge games consoles don't support filesystem compression, but I'm not sure why.

How? Compression is not free, no matter where you put it, someone has to decompress it again.

Are you talking about some exotic SATA controller or other hardware that does that?


No I was thinking of modern filesystem compression solutions. They offer relatively poor compression ratios, but computationally efficient decompression.


That would undo the entire point of it, no?
