I'm pretty sure most humans are nice to each other because they enjoy it and feel obligated to be nice, not for reward nor fear of punishment.


That seems naive and is refuted by the existence of a legal system.

One example: At times it seems there are more dogs in my neighborhood than humans, yet, I thankfully seldom see dog poop left on the ground.
