Private sector company would have to operate under the benevolent-dictator-for-life model in order to produce something with an underpinning philosophy on par with Blender's. That uncomfortable constraint alone makes it unlikely.
Stated another way, the product of a combined effort by tens of thousands of enthusiasts made over a span almost two decades would be costly to duplicate and would probably reflect a different philosophy in it's design. The company can throw money at a project to buy developer time but it isn't quality time. Look at autodesk, why improve a product when you can just buy the competitor?
