That argument has sadly never worked. It's too easy to dismiss as an exaggerated analogy. I also think it's wrong to assume everyone outside tech is a clueless sheep. People are often well aware of the implications but think it's "worth" it. They simply don't care and draw the line somewhere between giving their data to Big Tech and live in a glass house.
