There's a difference between being technically aware of something, and having the mental framework to take that awareness and turn it into a call to action. It's the news that tells people how to think about things and how to act about them. Corporate news is being slaughtered by social media. You've seen them attack social media already with stories of how pedophiles use it to get your kids and stuff. I don't think it will take long for the corporate news to figure out they can weaponize this to encourage regulating their enemy industry.
