I still have a portable version of Word 2003 on a flash stick, because it still works better.
The most incomprehensible thing to me is how much worse all the IM software I have to use today is.

I think IM has such a low bar to entry (how hard is it to create a TCP connection and send and recieve stuff?) that encourages lots of churn and competing protocols.
