My whole working life has bee
in organisations with a disproportionate number of atypical types, and by and large found it refreshing and tolerant compared the culture outside, often macho, ignorant and dumb. Defending RMS's predilections as stemming from being aspy or whatever is really insulting to a great many in the tech community.
Just one? Temple Grandin comes immediately to mind. In our field Bill Gates probably qualifies as high-functioning neuro-atypical. And then there's Richard Greenblatt who built the first Lisp machines that eventually became the counter-inspiration for RMS's whole career.
