At the time, there was no proof of the Holocaust, or of the rape of Nanking or the genocide in Bosnia. There usually isn't proof of genocide when it's going on because any country authoritarian enough to carry one out is also authoritarian enough to wipe out the evidence.
(I am not saying China is committing genocide right now. They're just moving in the wrong direction.)
My argument is not that there aren't some detention facilities in China there, my argument is that any number estimate that is being claimed should be supported by some reasonable proofs, and my impression is that the numbers promoted by those who obviously have some specific interests to overesimate these numbers appear to me to be completely over the top, and I've given the links which lead me to conclude that. I will welcome any links that explicitly shine more light on these topics. Until then, it's for me as supported as the US and UK pre-Iraq war claims of WMD.
"It emerged yesterday that the dossier issued last week - later found to include a plagiarised section written by an American PhD student - was compiled by mid-level officials in Alastair Campbell's Downing Street communications department with only cursory approval from intelligence or even Foreign Office sources.
Though it now appears to have been a journalistic cut and paste job rather than high-grade intelligence analysis, the dossier ended up being cited approvingly on worldwide TV by the US secretary of state, Colin Powell, when he addressed the UN security council on Wednesday. "
"Colin Powell delivered his presentation making the case for war with Iraq at the United Nations 15 years ago, on February 5, 2003.
As much criticism as Powell received for this — he’s called it “painful” and something that will “always be a part of my record” — it hasn’t been close to what’s justified. Powell, who was secretary of state under President George W. Bush, was much more than just horribly mistaken: He fabricated “evidence” and ignored repeated warnings that what he was saying was false."
