I think that's an overly narrow characterisation of VR with unnecessarily pejorative connotations.
For example, perhaps VR will let people interact or collaborate with others in ways AR wouldn't be conducive to?
I'm not saying "VR is better than AR". Different media have different characteristics and uses.
