There is so much weight of history for Microsoft to overcome if they want to now be accepted and trusted by the open source community. I'm willing to believe that at least parts of the company are sincere and serious about achieving that, but they need to have a thick skin and be understanding when people don't immediately trust them right off the bat.

Many long years of name calling and Embrace and Extend (which this particular issue feels a lot like) are going to take some time, patience, and long suffering on their part to counteract.
