I made someone with a veni vidi vici tattoo when I told him that.

> There are enough brain damaged people out there (and definitely on dating apps) that would file a baseless rape report for being stood up or lied to, so the bar should at least be with letting the police handle it.

Rape is underreported because this attitude is so prevalent. Reporting a rape is incredibly difficult and traumatizing and rarely leads to a conviction. It also exposes you to violence and harassment to the person who raped you in the first place.

Parent comment meant that people would report rape on the app for trivial reasons, not that they would falsely report rape to the police.

The US is responsible for the economic problems of many of those countries. To give an example, whether or not you agree with what the US is doing to Venezuela, all the sanctions have caused mass migrations out of that country and into ours.

Do you not think the decision was political?

I read LOTR before the movies came out, the Silmarillion, and most of the books mentioned above and I know plenty of other women who have as well.

IM-possible!

I wouldn't trust any data about charter schools that came from the Hoover Institute. Plenty of red states with weak labor laws have awful educational systems.

> This means: You do have to see a physician and psychologist to get diagnosed and to get a therapy plan. Just reading articles or books about managing ADHD won't do the trick.

The cruel paradox of ADHD treatment. I only got meds in the first place because my husband was able to follow through with getting me the appointments. It's been life changing. I needed a ton of support before and now we've reached parity with chores and finances. I never could have gotten that first step without someone helping me though.

Probably because you can buy a gaming PC. I don't complain very often about consoles being locked down because it doesn't affect me unless there's some platform exclusive I can't play. If there was a viable alternative to iOS or Android I wouldn't care quite so much about them.

You can also buy a phone with Sailfish OS or use a Linux phone. The option is always there.

I want to buy a PS5 and install SteamOS on it and play PC games. Why can't I?

You can't buy a phone with Sailfish or a Linux phone and continue to access your banks that require apps for 3DS that check the play integrity API so compatibility layers like Sailfish has or bluestacks won't work. I'd say the inability to access my money makes it a lot less of an option.

And I can't run Firefox on my PS5 or Xbox, the limitation is purely arbitrary, not technical.

I live in LA and it's terrifying. There are soldiers in our streets without our consent. It isn't going to end with this. They're going to keep escalating. At this point, I dlthink half the country would he fine if Trump started bombing us.

What exactly have the National Guard posted in LA done? In DC, they're literally picking up trash.

(That's not a good thing! It's an abuse of the Guard!)

The very fact that there are soldiers being stationed in our city without our consent by a hostile government is terrifying. I'm not scared of what they're doing, I'm scared of what they could do in the future and I'm scared that a large part of the country doesn't think this is a big deal or even seems to be cheering this on.

I'm not cheering it on, but because I know that the point of the deployment is to freak me out, I refuse to take the bait. It's not like people carrying automatic weapons is a sight unknown to western Democracies; you see it all over Europe.

When they do something crazy, I'll be right there with you. But the President has the power to deploy the Guard to protect federal property, and while these deployments are abusive, they're not unlawful. Most of what people say about the Guard actually taking over policing is implausible. So I'm just going to call it out for the bad policy that it is and then not act like the collapse of society is imminent.

The fact that "a large part of the country" doesn't think this is a big deal should tell you something valuable about what the best next moves are.

(Here I'll cop to searching your comment threads late at night in hopes of finding something interesting)

The real worry is voting. The things you want to watch out for are stationing any military or LEOs at polling places and proscribing mail in voting.

I think it depends on what kind of Republican someone is. I was raised in a conservative Christian community and later came out as a transgender woman. I've been surprised at how many people have been supportive of me since they got over the initial shock. I think knowing someone who's personally affected by this administration has an effect on people's opinions. There are plenty of people who are reactionary assholes that aren't worth talking to but there are people who still have an open heart. It's tiring, and I couldn't do it if I didn't have a supportive community to retreat to, but I have been able to sway some people. I don't judge anyone that doesn't want to put in the effort though.

I guess that is my core problem: no empathy default. Opinion can be changed only by anecdotal example person (“you are one of the good ones”).

Yeah, I've made friends with a bunch of (mostly ex- at this point) Republicans because we can agree (1) that other people matter and (2) structural inequalities exist and should not.

If we have that in common, then I find the difference in politics is mostly implementation and method. I'm happy to debate civic policy on the merits all day at that point.

The people who are drawn to the performatively cruel side are not rational actors and can't be reasoned with. I've tried.

You have my admiration for trying, especially in this political climate. I've had younger folk straight up not believe me when I say this is exactly the same playbook they ran against gay men in the 90s.
