Zig isn't 1.0 so..

> I think it's a dangerous philosophy for professional work. You know what happens to code that works? It ships.

It's worse than that this happens to code that appears to work. But of course people who work on "prototypes" don't code for robustness, they code for "delivery time", then of course when you ship the prototype, the result is ugly..

I wouldn't want to live in the appartment where the metro pass just nearby, exotic OK, but very noisy!

It's apparently not awful; it's variously reported at 60 to 76dB depending on where you look: https://www.geonoise.com/train-passes-through-an-apartment-b...

Although this paper indeed finds it can be a lot higher in the station: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S03787...

Mmm not a great quote..

Ha, I kind of agree with you, and I'm a little embarrassed it's as upvoted as it is. I just love the silly little video of him saying it and then cracking up. It pops into my head a lot and gives me a laugh. I just felt like sharing it to be goofy. Didn't imagine it would end up at the top of the thread!

While you're right on the LED part, this bike lanes is obviously misdesigned.. I have a similar one next to my house and fell from my bicycle due to its poor design, some French civil engineer also don't care :-(

We are starting to see some in my city in the US and while that is exciting and appreciated, many of them are terrible to ride on. There is one near my house that is so full of lane changes and curves, you really can do much more than 7mpg (walking speed). For some reason, they saw fit to make the bike lane weave in and out of the parallel parking? It's so bizarre and awkward that I'd rather just ride with the traffic in the street like we used to since that invokes less anxiety.

It sure didn't help Ada's beginnings, but I think that there was a free Ada compiler before Rust.

> One of Haskell’s most basic innovations [cut] was the ability to write the type of a function separately from writing the function body.

I don't get it, what's the difference between this and C's function declaration?

In C, you still need to write the types in the definition.

> Yes, even books. I remember as a kid they encouraged us to read but not TOO much.

Which is a good advice: too much of a good thing isn't a good thing..

Ada has inout parameters.

Mmm, given that I have an AZERTY keyboard, I take a look at ErgoEmacs's configuration and .. no way I'm going into this! I'll stay with VSCode..

> I have an AZERTY keyboard

Makes no difference. I lived for a decade in Czechia, where they use QWERTZ. CUA works absolutely the same whatever your localisation.
