My "screw this" moment was when I discovered you needed an internet connection to play Minesweeper.

You don't. It works without internet. As Minesweeper is simply a program you can use the old one in Windows 10.

The Windows Store version does, IIRC.

Sounds like it was based on the "terrorist"-ness of his name, i.e. whether the name is on a watchlist, which (rightfully or wrongfully, in the West) correlates with "Muslimness".

I dunno, I slept in my office in grad school. It wasn't out of needing to feel like a hard worker or showing off or whatever, it was more that sometimes I just felt like working until I was about to fall asleep, and then I was too tired to head home.

Yeah, I agree maybe for one night, but repeatedly?

Some people are interested in their work, especially at Google. I do things every night until I fall asleep, though not usually work.

I would love to sleep at work but I am not allowed to (I work at a courthouse). Monday through Friday I work downtown, my gym is downtown, all my going out is downtown, I am and plan to be kid-free forever... if I could save the commuting time, which is minimal, and get an extra hour of sleep or stay out a little longer and socialize, I would be delighted. Heck, I would even do a little extra work if I could just recline on the couch and fall asleep.

Agreed, I do as well. After a point though, it becomes inefficient to bang at a problem repeatedly.

Much of my work in grad school was episodic, so I often slept on my lab's couch. I'd work for an hour or two, nap for a while until it was time for the next step, and so on.

But I'd rather work at home.

Back in the day, I think many people equated AOL with "The Internet".

But back in the day, AOL was more closely equated with something like a Yahoo-style content homepage & search box that also offered ISP connectivity services, which was critical for millions who were unserved by what was at the time "high speed" DSL or cable ISPs. Mailing bazillions of installer CDs worked -- who'd have guessed!

Why don't we ask the people who currently have no internet what they'd prefer?

Disclaimer: I am only a young person in Germany, but used the 0.facebook.com service (facebook for free) here for almost 10 years.

Result: Yes, some internet is better than no internet.

Nowadays, where I stopped using facebook mostly, I just buy like the tiniest data package my provider supports, wait for it to throttle to 64kbps, and just use IRC, the web without JS, etc.

It existed since 2007 with E-Plus in Germany ;P

Cool :)

Will they be able to reply to this comment?

When internet.org is made available to these people, won't their usage or lack thereof signal their preference?

Which would you prefer, knowing what you know?

I mean, if you wanted to be sure you wouldn't get caught with your mistress, you basically would have to wear a bag on your head, no? Or at least her meet her indoors. You certainly wouldn't complain about invasion of privacy when your wife's friend sees you with the mistress on a date.

There's a big 'X' in the upper right corner of the box you can click to make it go away.

Psychedelics have never helped me solve a complex mathematical problem, but they did help me solve some complex social problems.

Perhaps the point isn't that people with these traits always succeed, but rather that people who succeed all have these traits.

And also, that knowing the traits doesn't mean you can change yourself to adopt them fast enough or at all.
