For info of who came late here, the original title was 'Ask HN: Review my friends startup "DropBox Killer" '

may he would have asked 'is it easily usable by your grand mother?'...answer would be a definite NO

And VC would have asked how big is the market for file sharing for grand mothers..

Just joking, but I find the parallel to usable by grand mothers quite amusing! A lot of products are usable, yet they aren't what grand mothers would use.

Opera reports that as Fraud

No..the video you have posted was from TED talk 2009 in Mysore, India...and the video mentioned here is from TED talk yesterday as Derek mentioned in his blog

Simple Interface..

Some of the links to stanford seems to be broken..

Thanks for letting me know. It might be good to add a way to report broken links through the site.

When i read the article, it makes me say that author feels one cant be productive without google wave...Hmm..That is tough to accept..a Large part of the world is still productive and making money without using google wave..

He's saying that now he's as or more productive with less work. That's the point of any new tool.

From the post .." There was a time just a few months ago when I did not have google wave. I think of that time with horror - because that epoch was marked with conflicts, total chaos, money was being lost every day, fights were happening between me and my collaborators. Google wave came in, and within a couple of weeks, a heavenly peace had descended on my business..." ....Accepted..Google wave helped him..But my point is people can still do that without wave

And his point is, without any tool, people can still do most anything. But if the tool is particularly good, they'll do that same thing better now.

People were still doing backups before dropbox. I, for one, am just doing them better now.

It is good if the default map loads based on my location..currently i have no idea where is it pointing to it..and there is no easy way to change that

A while ago we pulled support for IP geolocation, due to the service being slow. I have beenlooking into reliable alternatives and have failed, but am totally open to suggestions! Latest idea is to try one of the ip address databases, which claim to be relatively accurate. However, since a user can create an account and save a location to auto-center on, I haven't tried to hard. I'll have to update the wording around the site to steer people towards account creation so that location is saved to a profile.

I'd suggest you hook into a browser API to do this. I believe google maps already do this via a "my location" button, which can estimate, at worst case, to the city usually. Also, changing the default and saving it per login would be good, ala google maps too.

pardon my ignorance..Is it trust worthy Source ??

No, Cringely is generally untrustworthy.

Cringely means well, but he tends to get these sorts of hunches that don't necessarily have any basis in reality.

From the article: "If this reads like a huge conspiracy theory that’s because it is."

Thanks .. and i feel '?' should be added to the title ...That was some news when i saw the title...but now one of those predictions...

I am at a loss as to any predictions that Cringely has ever gotten right. In that regard, he is somewhat akin to the Amazing Criswell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Criswell)

He predicted the HP/Compaq merger (and, further, predicated that it wouldn't help). He also predicted Sun's march to irrelevance. And that the iPhone would crush Windows Mobile.

But yeah, most everything else has been wrong. This episode was particularly amusing: http://www.cringely.com/2009/03/the-neokast-mystery/ That was around the time I unsubscribed from his RSS feed.

The HP/Compaq merge wasn't too hard to see. Somebody had to buy up Compaq as the market consolidated, and it wasn't going to be Dell.

As for Sun, that's like predicting that the year will end in a few weeks. Mcnealy was one big pile of fail with his rapid course changes and bluster.
