Is it in PayPal's interest that Libra succeeds? It seems that they would be competitors. They might just have backed it strategically to somehow have a stake in it if it takes off big time. Given the pushback they could now bank on the whole thing failing instead.
That doesn't seem to contradict what I said? Sure, PayPal wanted a stake in this assuming it would become a success that they couldn't stop... but they may still be better off if Libra doesn't become a success in the first place.
This isn't limited to ERs. I have a close friend that works as a nurse at Stanford (not in the ER) and the treatment they have to endure there is insane. Patients have punched her, spit on her, asked her for sexual favors, massages, and the list goes on. Worse, Stanford wants their nurses to treat patients like hotel guests which makes matters worse. The staff has no recourse when patients act this way. Seeing all of the sexual harassment backlash in Silicon Valley makes me wonder why it hasn't applied to places like hospitals - it's as if this treatment is expected and hospitals are immune because they're seen as a last resort for sick people. Where else do you send them?
They have very low cost of acquisition of customers. This is opposite to some brokerages like TDAmeritrade that recently pulled their marketing budgets because they saw literally no uptick from marketing spending.
But that's not enough to justify their valuations.
Fortnite is harder than Overwatch, especially when considering characters like Mercy. In Fortnite you must be able to build while playing a hitscan character. It crossed into the mainsteam because of distribution. It's free and available on mobile devices.
Do you play Overwatch? Anecdotes follow from someone that's gamed for 25+ years (I'd love to see data). On PC at least, the amount of female players is astounding. Most (not all) play Mercy, which seems to be a mix of she's easy to play for new gamers, plus she's female. Followed by DVA.
I've noticed the same thing but Overwatch is NOT a good game for casual or novice gamers because a large percentage of games involve someone getting upset in team chat, blaming others, huge amounts of negativity, and the occasional troll spewing racial slurs.
I'm aware that WhatsApp was a status app (like AOL status messages) and they stumbled into their way into cannibalizing SMS, basically.
