Not sure this will work out as planned. Theres no collateral against a college degree. If I buy a house, default on my mortgage, the bank owns the title and it can sell my house and I lose out in any value the house had. If my student loans were discharged during bankruptcy, I would still retail the value of the degree. Even if they revoke the actual degree, I still hold the knowledge. The result is that I basically hold all the value while someone else holds all the risk. Thats how you get colleges raising rates to cover risks instead of lowering them.
So living in austin, I can tell you that the source of these "highly durable reusable bags" is the local supermarket, HEB. They charge you $.25 per bag every time you ask for one. $.25 on a single bag isn't a big deal for most shoppers so, generally, I don't see too many people brining their reusable bags back in. The upside to this is that you actually have more people walking out with their groceries in their hands. But I bet that if you were to tell HEB to start using paper bags like everyone else you would see more paper bags in the recycler than plastic. Because I literally have not been to a single other store that sells plastic bags instead of paper ones.
I remember when the ban first came about, HEB would make you buy the reusable canvas bags instead of having those heavy duty plastic bags. I don't know why they switched. Like you said, every other store in town will give you recyclable paper bags if you forget to bring your own reusables. Unfortunately, since HEB is the only low cost grocery store in town (besides Super Targets and Walmarts), their decision to give out an alternative plastic bag is hurting the effort of the ban.
I realize you're being satirical, but these things are slowly starting to be a sign of success. Being able to eat the recommended daily amount of calories (no more, no less), staying active and sleeping well are starting to be signs of success and status instead of the norm. The higher up the success ladder you look, the fewer overweight, out of shape, sleep deprived, dehydrated people you tend to see.
I'm a huge coffee fan and I love my coffee. They are significantly quicker than the alternatives because they make a single cup at a time and take less time to make that cup than a coffee maker would. The quality of K-Cup coffee is trash though. I have yet to find a remotely drinkable brand that I enjoy. I still pack my own reusable K-Cup with my own beans.
This actually wouldn't be too hard. First, lets consider that a quarter million is not a lot for a company. Also, if the company has a significant reach, or has significant expenses there is potential here to move the needle. If you have a company that has millions of users and you manage to earn or save a few cents per user (say, drive down the bandwidth cost) you can make a quarter million in profit for the company in a weekend. That said, if you have an employee who can make in one weekend twice what you're paying them in a year, they should probably be compensated with more equity.
If the median is the middle number, wouldn't that mean that around half of america makes less than $15/hr? The same wiki page says "slightly under 45% had incomes below $25,000". So a raise to $15/hr would potentially impact half the county.
Its not about bias. Professors honestly believe that what they are teaching you is the truth and that their viewpoint is the correct one. They don't want to hear your ability to argue with them or present critical thought. They want to know that you absorbed their viewpoint. When you write a paper contrary to their viewpoint, they see it as you not understanding the material, not as you understanding the material and choosing an opposing viewpoint.
I think you and I have described the same thing using different words. Just because someone doesn't know they have a bias doesn't mean that they don't have a bias.
There's a bunch of replies all over this thread that are almost comical examples of HN users trying to rebut the positions of people they agree with.
I don't know if that's because internet commenters in general just use the preceding comment as a springboard to jump onto their own soapbox, or if HN users are particularly bad at reading and responding to the content of a text (while loudly denouncing such worthless literary skills).
Also, the OEMs constantly customize it, so theres that.
