Not a pilot myself but it seems that a large part of the danger with flying is that when something goes wrong you are much more likely to have a high speed crash. Cars don't even usually travel at speeds that planes crash at.
Well, I at least know that teenagers were considered adults, not children, in the past and were expected to be responsible. Maybe that change is a big part of the problem.
On the other hand keeping all of the federal workforce in D.C, instead of the states, reduces the political desire to prop up federal projects just for the local jobs. Much easier to reduce wasteful spending when you don't layoff people you want voting for you.
I'd assume (?) this effect is minimized by so much of the workforce living outside the district (600k people live in the district, ~6 million in the DC/Maryland/Virginia statistical area).
The Maryland and Virginia sides have representation (which is very pro-government jobs, as they should be considering their constituency).
America is a common law jurisdiction. Juries determine the true law and you never know what that is until a jury decides. You can make so good guesses though. Custom is the rule so an autocar doing what people normally do is the best way to have it behave.
In the west water systems are pressurized using a large reservoir and gravity. I imagine its similar in third world countries? They have unreliable water due to the reasons they have unreliable power: poor ability to plan, not enough supply, undersized systems for current use, deferred maintenance, etc.
"The consolidation appears to be driven in part by President Donald Trump’s proposal to cut the agency’s $4 billion budget by 55% for the 2026 fiscal year that begins on 1 October."
This statement is wrong. What a sad state of affairs Science Magazine has become. It should read, "The proposal is to cut the budget by 55% to $4 billion."
The 2024 budget was $9.06 billion and the 2025 request was $10.183 billion.[1]
