I agree that set and setting are huge factors in your psychedelics experience.
I am 'speculating' but also do have a lot of experience in a variety of psychedelics.
I'm not sure where "intent" falls on that spectrum. The vast majority of my experiences have been "for fun" or "for the experience" at music festivals, concerts, or at home..
I have also taken ayahuasca and changa with a shaman. I was doing it "for the experience", but how is that different from someone else who was in the same room as me doing it an attempt to treat depression or anxiety? How would the risks be different?
Being an anxious or depressed person in general may increase risk factors of negative experience. This is still not related to intent.
Thirded, my only complaint is that it helpfully strips out comments and occasionally forgets which SQL variant I’m using. I have found it helpful to feed it back my query after I’ve implemented the recommended changes and made my tweaks, along with something like, “this is what I did, can you help me improve the section starting with `SELECT * FROM product`… the context seems to improve it’s subsequent recommendations.
I am really curious to know why? And don't invoke "what about your kids, mothers, fathers?". "Solipsism" (first time I have heard of this, so thank you) does not make me feel any less worse when something happens to them.
The parent was making a joke, but one way to answer your question might be:
You feel bad because you assume they - like you - feel something when you mistreat them, and you assume this at a very deep level that might not, itself, feel like anything to you.
While some humour was intended, I do actually grapple with this question. The answer that rings truest for me, especially as a newly minted father, is Vonnegut’s: “A purpose of life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”
>At first sight we might imagine that knowledge could be defined as 'true belief'. When what we believe is true, it might be supposed that we had achieved a knowledge of what we believe. But this would not accord with the way in which the word is commonly used. To take a very trivial instance: If a man believes that the late Prime Minister's last name began with a B, he believes what is true, since the late Prime Minister was Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman. But if he believes that Mr. Balfour was the late Prime Minister, he will still believe that the late Prime Minister's last name began with a B, yet this belief, though true, would not be thought to constitute knowledge.
Great, not only is ChatGPT better at rhyming than me, it also sounds more sophisticated while doing it. LLMs fail to pass for sophomoric when viewed by an expert, but to the mediocre it exposes one's shortcomings. Maybe because they sort of are big giant averaging machines.
Did you get anywhere with this idea? I work in this space and I’d certainly be interested. Especially WRT to control. Just to scratch the surface: the xyz Display (TV) supports IR, RS-232, & IP control- how should I determine what is optimal? Fewer wires (IP, possibly) JustWorks™ (IR), MostlyJustWorks and gives feedback (RS-232), YOLO (CEC). Oh great, its 2023 and xyz have dropped support for RS-232 on the 75” model, but it’s still there on the 65” and 85.”
Sadly no. It was maybe 10 years ago when my parents needed to unplug and redo their home theater and I was living away from home. But this is a good example. It should be easy for software to figure out. The hard part would be populating the database. however, it could be crowd sourced maybe.
Interestingly enough, when I want the compartmentalization experience that comes from an “App” on macOS, I turn to… Microsoft Edge. Edge has a nifty little feature that lets you “Appify” a website. I mostly find this useful for company-required PWAs, and most-of-all, Microsoft Teams. The Edge-“Appified” MS Teams on macOS is leaps and bounds more performant than the “Native” (Electron) MS Teams apps on macOS (consumes ~25MB of mem vs ~800MB). Has the nice benefit of your “Apps” being a Command-Space away.
Another benefit of this is that my ad-blocker still works with these apps and that you can always fall back to default browser behaviour like opening a link in a new tab.
