On a global level it's completely pervasive.

This is the US in a nutshell. And then they wonder why the deficit is so high? Most expensive healthcare. Most expensive incarceration. Most expensive childcare. Most expensive infrastructure projects. Endless list.

The "deficit" is high because USD is the world reserve currency, and the government policy is to prevent natural deflation. The "deficit" should really be called the surplus as it represents the centralized gains of progress from everybody who is still willing to invest in America despite that collection.

The popular political movement aimed at reducing the "deficit" is really just part of the larger global movement to destroy the US's world leadership position, hence the related goal of ruining our relationships with our allies and whatnot.

Having said that, I agree that the dynamic here is a horrible waste of resources. Housing someone in an SRO (single room occupancy) without guards would cost like one quarter of what jail/prison costs.

The whole US economy is. Take one step outside the US and it's apparent what a house of cards it is.

My favorite one is the fake US embassy in Ghana: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/nov/28/the-true-story...

You took her computer to a "computer shop" and yet she's the one that's clueless?

“Had her take her computer” - presumably GP didn’t do it themselves. Easily understandable if they don’t live nearby.

JD, no couch! Thank you.

No, overseas most do and it's endless frustrating right now:

1. Long press on the phone number, but don't tap it otherwise it calls

2. Choose Copy phone number

3. Create a contact

4. Refresh WhatsApp by quitting and reopening

5. Find the contact on WhatsApp and call

If you're calling multiple companies for bookings or quotes, repeat this over and over.

Apple is to blame for many things, but the fact that if whatsapp has access to your contact list you can't start a conversation with any phone number in an easy way is entirely up to them.

This said, it's good to see that apple is slowly adding things so basic that it's baffling they are not there since years.

Do not know things on Iphone side but in android I justs end the device to myself and click the number, then it gives option to chat via whatsapp.

FYI you can go to wa.me/<phone-number> on your browser to start a WhatsApp conversation without having to create a new contact.

Even more, there are convenient Shortcuts for messaging a number on WhatsApp quickly, implemented through the same wa.me OpenURL action.

not the case in europe at all, hence my comment. you guys should travel more.
