"clown show" means something not organized well, so it's not exactly a foolish argument. Why would you hold VLC creators responsible if there are third parties spreading fake versions of it, and what can VLC do about it, and how does it help banning the original version? Why they need to contact the "local representative of that organization" instead of catching/banning other illegal websites?

So if someone creates few fake currency notes, will they ban all the original currency notes instead of catching the culprit?

Oh well, on that note, I remembered they did ban all currency notes of Rs.500 denomination to fight corruption, and then released new notes of "Rs.2000 denomination".

So they banned the original source after finding out that there were illegitimate versions of VLC disguised as the real package?

How did it solve the problem? Don't you think that after they banned the original, there would have been even more illegitimate versions?

Very valid point! They banned all VLC impersonators alongside VLC, I believe. Again - definitely not how you solve the problem. I was simply clarifying what had actually happened.

>> Police in neighbouring Bihar state in the same year claimed rats had drunk nearly one million litres of alcohol kept in storerooms in one of the country’s few dry states.

Apparently, rats have learnt how to open the alcohol bottles. /s ;)

> one million litres of alcohol kept in storerooms

so not in bottles :) /s Anyway, rats are inteligent animals.

Nothing too innovative. But a hair dryer on hot setting will be very helpful in such a case. :)

That sounds like an easy way to crack the windscreen

You just hold them a foot or two away from the window and move it a lot. It's still not a great idea because it's going to take like 30 minutes to defrost your windshield, but in a situation where there's a frozen tarp locking you out of the car, it'll do just don't use water. or do, but post the video.

I'm the dummy (I live in Houston) who would try hot water. Why doesn't that work? Does it freeze?

yeah, at least in colder climates, it freezes way faster than you'd expect. Basically instantly, with a bad habit of pooling around the wipers

edit: turns out some people have also tried boiling hot water... I'd never have thought to try this, but, yeah, it'll crack your windshield.

some people will recommend rubbing alcohol blends, which work a little better, but they can dry out the rubber seals around the window. It's honestly better to just start the car 5 mins earlier than you need to use it, with the defrost on full blast, then come out and scrape it.

I agree, Meta has never done anything like this before. Fully transparent and honest organization, its always working for best interest of people and democracies.

/s

Oh lets just take a claim made by a clearly biased publication (thewire.in) as the truth and say how bad the Indian Govt and Meta is and how they are stifling speech of dissenters. /s

Here you go. May be the WSJ is also biased.

“Facebook Says Its Rules Apply to All. Company Documents Reveal a Secret Elite That’s Exempt. A program known as XCheck has given millions of celebrities, politicians and other high-profile users special treatment, a privilege many abuse.”

https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-files-xcheck-zuckerber...

The screenshots in the article are clearly fake. There is no instagram.workplace.com

Can you please prove in any way that this url does not exist?

Ever heard of “intranet”? Local network urls are not available outside company network.

instagram.workplace.com redirects to www.workplace.com

Any other legit domains take you to their SSO page. Try walmart.workplace.com

Seems any invalid subdomain causes a redirect to the www subdomain: asdfgqwerty.workplace.com

workplace.com is owned by Meta. So who knows if they are running their own intranet instance for themselves. They dont need to pay big bucks to anyone to cause a fake redirect.

As other comments also mentioned, maintaining an Electron app is not much different than any other JavaScript application.

My team used to work on large electron & non-electron apps. We used to have a tech-debt ticket every couple of sprints to review and update various packages in order to take care of any potential vulnerabilities.

Most of time updating packages is as simple as running "npm audit fix" command. But sometime we had to manually update major versions of some of the packages and while doing so, we had to take care of any potential breaking changes.

Having a good set of automated regression tests really helps with the process.

> We used to have a tech-debt ticket every couple of sprints to review and update various packages in order to take care of any potential vulnerabilities.

We should probably start doing that.

We have a pretty thorough set of tests, so we do catch breaking changes from Dependabot in the CI pipeline.

i.e Javascript applications in general have poor maintainability.

That is simply the price of Electron. You trade API stability and application maintainability for cross platform and cheaper developers/web tech.

I recently used skype for a similar purpose and liked it. Its free, there is no time limit, and best of all we were able to record the whole session so that students were able to watch it again if they needed to revise the lesson. [1]

3 days ago it was announced that Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America is leaving the CEO role to become president and CEO of Scout on Sept. 1.

Volkswagen is bringing back Scout truck as an electric vehicle, to be made in America. Scout is a VW brand, but it will be established as an independent company.

Previous discussion on the news (that I submitted to HN 3 days ago): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32153222

>> Now, amid a historic shift to electric vehicles (EVs), VW sees an opportunity to reconnect with U.S. consumers by offering EVs in the segments they care most about: pickup trucks and large SUVs.

>> Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, will become president and CEO of Scout on Sept. 1

>> He will be succeeded by Pablo Di Si, currently the executive chairman of Volkswagen's South American Region. Di Si will oversee the entire North American region, as did Keogh.

Very neat idea, definitely going to try making few gifs myself :)

Just found a minor issue, when we click on any image on templates page, it gives a "Not found" error. May be you can link the image to PDF so that user can click on image to open the pdf.
