I don’t think this is true. This is a lagging indicator and takes time to show the meaningful data. I think companies that won’t adapt and embrace remote/hybrid will slowly decay.


I think hybrid is MUCH closer to in-person than remote. It requires you to be close to a base office.

I think hybrid-with-scheduled-days is almost always a clear win over 5-days in-office, but that full-remote is a huge productivity drain. The cost of alignment, decision making, and collaboration for any sort of creative work goes way up. So unless you know exactly what sorta widgets you need to make and it won't change much more than once a year or so, you're going to have trouble keeping up.

I went through 3 different remote-only startup jobs before finally finding another in-person one, and didn't stay long at any of them because the productivity was just too low. Too much time spent doing things that would be easier in-person or waiting-or-making-up-for async-induced issues.


Once Linux can run all my favorite games and future games I will uninstall windows forever.


This has already happened to me, I only play Dota2 and Civilization. And some cool games on PS5 and Switch. I still have Windows, but everytime I boot it, it takes 3 hours of updates before its usable again.


I think this is absolutely one of the reasons. Addresses are very hard to remember in ipv6. You usually just have to remember the first 3 parts of ipv4 and then change the last digit based on the host you want. IPv6 I know it has shorthand but still it doesn’t register in my brain the same way.


What alternative do you suggest for making the IP addresses longer (so more people can connect computers to the Internet) while keeping them equally memorable?

The most recent anonymous editor to the IPv6 address article on Wikipedia has address "2602:FBF6:0:0:30C6:7069:6DF0:FD24". An IPv4-like notation of that would be "9730.64502.0.0.12486.28777.28144.64804".


The problem is that adding so many bits to IPv6 addresses, by way of intended integration of the EUI / MAC address in particular is not actually necessary and is a bit of a mistake. As a rule, no one even wants their MAC address propagated across the entire Internet, nor to be registered in DNS either.

There are some technical advantages to doing things that way of course, but they are arguably rather outweighed by the administrative disadvantages. The protocol could have been designed so that typical layer 3 addresses were not much longer, nor harder to type or remember than IPv4 addresses are.


IPv6 having 128-bit is a huge advantage for transition. NAT64 shoves the 32-bit IPv4 address into the host field.

MAP-T shoves the source and destination IPv4 addresses and ports into IPv6 address. This makes IPv4-IPv6-IPv4 NAT possible. Which means it is possible to run IPv6-only network with IPv4 at on the customer network and edges.


There are certainly advantages as you point out, but just because you have 128 bit addresses does not mean it is convenient for 64 bits of that to be filled with semi-random data.

It’ll show all file events. No need to disable SIP. SIP is doing a lot of good work for users and unless you’re doing kernel work or low level coding I’d keep it enabled. Obv. There are other cases but for the general public keep it on.


It’s personal preference. If the security people had their way we’d all be developing on iPads. If SIP interferes with your work: turn it off. Linux doesn’t have SIP and it’s just fine to develop on Linux as well.


100% agree. We would put everyone on chromebooks if we had our way. I don’t think it’s good for productivity and generating new ideas for a company so I never advocate for it.

+1, I will pay for the removal of the adds but I couldn't care about YouTube TV or music. The price already feels too high but it's the one I don't rotate through compared to Netflix/Disney/Hulu/HBO which I watch a show then cancel.


I don’t get why Nintendo doesn’t just hire these people. You’d want these talented people on your team and they probably know the hardware/software better than people in the company.


Cooperative people >>> talented people.

That's the basic equation for most Japanese companies IMO. They'll still hire "genius" type people in specific positions, but probably not random hackers that have a strong sense of not playing by the rules (of course not everyone in the homebrew community is like that, and I'd expect there's actual hirings happening with the more team oriented members)

PS: I think another cultural element to this is, the "brilliant jerk" stereotype is way less pervasive, and you'll already find within Nintendo's hiring pool crazy talented people who are also extremely good team players with decent social skills. That makes it all the more harder to hire wild ninja rockstars.


Leaked documents showed Nintendo hired private investigators to follow and track the movements of 3DS hackers and to have a lawyer confront them at their house to get them to stop. Why would that person want to work for them?


Sure but the point was, if Nintendo _didn't_ do that and instead offered these people work


That's a real shame, you're right. I guess I just see talent different. If this was happening for my product I'd want them on my team. You could argue the legality but there is clear drive and talent to be tapped into.



Came here to say this. I grew up in the Sonic ROM hacking and fan game creation community (with this same username - my first posts are around 2001 and still around) and it was so cool to see how SEGA not only didn’t fuck with, but silently actually supported the scene. It was really awesome to see taxman and stealth get to where they did! I remember playing around with the Sonic Retro engine back in the day on my actual Dreamcast hardware. :)

Meanwhile; my friends in the Mario and Metroid hacking scene would constantly be hit with cease and desist orders from Nintendo, and some absolutely insane projects have been basically DOA and had to go underground. It’s quite a bit sad.

they have hired some homebrew developers in past under some reasonable terms [e.g nda that expires after given time] but guessing well informed actions got overrun by corporate protectionist bullshit.


I know one person who has done security work for Nintendo after previously working on homebrew.

They called me once, in 2015, asking if we could collaborate on Wii U security in some way. I was flattered but decided it would be against my morals.


I can't wait for this day. The day I can run any new release on Linux, I will be off windows forever.
